Cheap Ways to Spend Christmas in Walt Disney World
Although the Christmas season is the most expensive time to go to Walt Disney World, you can still take comparatively low-cost Disney vacations with a little planning and thought. Disney cast members beautify the entire complex right around Thanksgiving, so you can get into the festival spirit in Disney any time in December. Begin by making your vacation plans for the first three weeks in the month. Disney raises the prices an huge amount after the 18th, so have a good time early to save a large amount of hard cash.
While you’re spending your time in Walt Disney World, don’t feel like you have to check out the parks every day. While the decorations are extraordinary in Magic Kingdom and the different holiday exhibits in Epcot are amazing, you can have just as good a time enjoying one of the free or inexpensive Christmas celebrations elsewhere on Disney property.
Spend an afternoon and evening at the Swan and Dolphin resort complex for a super holiday celebration. Santa and Mrs. Claus greet guests in their tiki hut, their warm weather residence away from the North Pole. Enjoy roasted chestnuts, cookie decorating, storytelling with Mrs. Claus, tree lighting ceremonies and photo opportunities with the Claus family. Stop in the lobby and take your picture with the world’s largest chocolate Santa, which is made of over 1,100 pounds of chocolate.
Take the family to check out the lobby in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Not only is the Grand Floridian home to one of the most lovely Christmas trees in Disney World, it also houses what may be the world’s biggest gingerbread house. This 14-foot-tall home is so bigthat it serves as the shop for selling gingerbread “shingles” tofortunate guests who visit while this incredible creation is on site. Take pictures with the kids all over the lobby, grab a cup of cocoa or a soft drink and relax on the couches in the lobby while taking note of holiday music being played on the grand piano.
Spend the day in Downtown Disney. All of the retailers will have their holiday decorations up, and the entire area looks very festive. Take the young ones to the Lego shop and let them have fun with the 3,000 Legos available for kids to use. Wander among the giant Lego creations like the Loch Ness Monster, the dog walker, the dinosaur and the man on the bench. All of them are life sized and all are made completely of Legos. Stroll down toward the toy shops and see how many toys your kids can discover being used as giant tree ornaments. Have your photograph taken with Santa in front of the World of Disney store. Finish the afternoon with an early dinner at the Earl of Sandwich. They even have a holiday sandwich with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, just to put you in the Christmas mood.
No Christmas in Walt Disney World is complete without seeing the holiday parade and fireworks in the Magic Kingdom or visiting the country pavilions in Epcot, but even cheap Disney vacations can be filled with holiday Disney cheer without spending every day in the parks. Every resort and activity is elaborately decorated throughout the World, and cast members have a bit of extra Christmas cheer every day. Spend a day or two enjoying free activities in the resorts and save your tickets for two or three big days in the parks.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (Single-Disc Edition) $0.98 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is a rollicking voyage in the same spirit of the two earlier Pirates films, yet far darker in spots (and nearly three hours to boot). The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn’t disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira … |

Walt Disney $35 Walt Disney has been dissected, criticized, and lauded in numerous biographies, most of which try to penetrate the psychology of the man and his motives. Walt Disney: A Biography takes a cultural approach, looking at Disney as both a product of his culture and a cultural innovator who influenced entertainment, education, leisure, and even history. Drawing on many original sources, Walt Disney provides an overview of this genius’s remarkable life and family. At the same time, the book places Disney in the context of his times as a way of exploring the roots of and inspiration for his creativity. Because Walt Disney’s creations and ideas still affect our movies, play activities, vacation choices, and even our dreams and imagination, his influence is as important today as it was when he was alive, and this thoroughly engaging book shows why. |
